Kids’ Public Workshops

DO I HAVE TO STAY WITH MY MINOR CRAFTER FOR THE DURATION OF THE WORKSHOP? CAN I JUST DROP THEM OFF? Please see the above attendance guidelines based on your crafters age group (and personal ability) Lil’ Sprouts or Grow Getter

DO I HAVE TO SIGN A WAIVER FOR MY MINOR CHILD EVERY YEAR? YES! Due to insurance requirements, anyone participating in a Handsome Acres Farm program (including minor dependents) must have a signed and initialed waiver on file each calendar year. Waivers are valid January 1–December 31.

CAN I PUT ALL OF MY CHILDREN ON ONE WAIVER? NO, Each minor crafter must have their own signed and initialed wavier on file due to insurance requirements; even if the minor crafters are all from the same household.

WHO CAN SIGN MY MINOR CRAFTER’S WAIVER? ONLY legal parent or guardian are permitted to sign and complete a minor crafters participation waiver.

ALCOHOL POLICY: NO “adult” beverages permitted during public kid workshops. (They are permitted for PRIVATE workshop events for crafters over 21+ to enjoy.

CAN MY CRAFTER BRING THEIR OWN REFRESHMENTS (FOOD AND DRINKS?: YES! crafters are welcome to bring food (hot or cold) and non-alcoholic drinks & snacks to enjoy. Spill proof thermoses and nut free food options are highly appreciated to protect workspace and crafters with life threatening food allergies. (Non-spill proof drinks must stay on side tables)

WHAT SHOES DO I WEAR? All year long, closed-toe, sturdy shoes that can get soiled are best. We work with a variety of sharp and heavy tools that can be accidentally dropped, so closed-toe shoes are important for protecting your feet. Our workshop locations also have a variety of surfaces, including stone, gravel, rubber mats, pavers, grass, wood stairs, and ramps, making sturdy, comfortable footwear especially helpful.

WHAT CLOTHES DO I WEAR?: No matter the season or location—The Little Greenhouse or Schoolhouse Workshop) dressing in layers that can get soiled is best. We have heating and air conditioning, but everyone’s idea of comfortable varies, so dressing in layers allows you to adjust as needed. We provide one-size-fits-all aprons to wear during class.

HEALTH & SAFETY ALERTS POLICY: Alert staff BEFORE class of any life threatening plant or food allergies, controlled medical conditions, or required accommodations so that we may better prepare a safe learning environment.

WHY DO YOU HAVE SUCH SMALL CLASS SIZES? . 1. So we can provide the attention and assistance that crafters deserve 2. The project size and difficulty level. Larger classes: smaller projects requiring less working space, low difficulty level, independent crafters; Smaller classes: Larger projects requiring more space, increased level of difficulty.

THERE AREN’T ENOUGH SPOTS FOR MY KID’S FRIENDS TO ATTEND WORKSHOP, CAN YOU ADD SEATS? No, we cannot exceed the maximum class size. However, we’d love to schedule your child’s group of friends for a private workshop! Together we choose a date & time AND THE BEST PART—we do not charge a venue fee for private group events. Private workshop seats are the same cost as public workshops!

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CRAFTER CAN’T FINISH THEIR PROJECT?: Depending on situation, your crafter can 1. Stay later if schedule allows 2. Take project home with all materials needed to complete (minus tools) 3. We finish the project for your crafter (if it is 75% complete) & pick up at a later date 4. Schedule a time to come back to finish in one of our workshops.

SAFE SPACE POLICY: Zero tolerance for negative behavior, name calling, teasing, throwing, hitting, or disrespectful, or derogatory behavior towards fellow crafters or staff
